INSTALLATION OF OFFICE BEARERS

At a colourful function held at Manjooran Centre, Narakkal, The Office bearers of the Lions Club of Narakkal for the year 2004-2005 were installed in office. The installation Officer for the day was Lion.T.A.Varkey, Region Chairperson, 2003-2004 and the Public Relations officer designate for the year 2004-2005.

As installing officer Ln.Varkey in his address cherished the wonderful relationship he had with Narakkal lions club in his tenure as the Zone Chairman in charge of the club. He also placed on record his appreciation for the performance of the club over the period of time and also said, one never remembers a lions club by the awards it received in a year from the District but the number of lives it touched through its service.

Lion Dr.P.J.Thomas was installed in office as the President and Lion Adv.Kurian Antony Edassery as the Secretary and Lion M.P.Jose as the treasurer.

The Office bearers for the Lioness Club were also duly installed in office. Lns.Dr..Anies Thomas was installed in office as the lioness President and Lns. Adv.Anna Kurian and Lns. Mary Lincy were installed as the secretary and Treasurer respectively.

In his acceptance speech The President sought the co-operation of all the members and expressed confidence that the present year would be a fruitful year for the club. Lioness president also promised to work along with the lions and bring in laurels to the club.

The project inauguration was done by Lion Dr.Thomas Philip, D.C.Leadership and the visiting presidents of the Neighbouring Clubs offered their felicitations. The incoming secretary proposed vote of thanks and the meeting was adjourned for fellowship and dinner.

The host for the day was Ln.P.D.Varghese.

MEDICAL CAMP

A MEDICAL CAMP organised jointly by Lions Club of Narakkal and the Red cross society, Vypeen Unit was held at St.Mary’s U.P.School Narakkal on 14th August 2004. The camp was inaugurated at 9.30 am. It was intended to cover patients of the lower income groups from the area. A team of Doctors under the guidance and leadership of Lns.Dr.Anies Thomas examined the patients .

Free Medicines were also distributed at the camp. At the inaugural function held, Rev.Fr. Joseph Kozhikadan Presided, and Joseph J.Palakkapilly, Hon. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society,Ernakulam District, Inaugurated the camp and Lns..Dr.Anies Thomas President, lioness Club and Ln.Adv.Kurian Antony Edassery, Secretary, Lions Club, Narakkal felicitated. The camp saw active participation of members and it was a great success.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

On 14th of August 2004 evening at 8.30 pm, a dinner meeting to celebrate the Independence day was held at Manjooran Centre Narakkal. The evening saw a heavy rain. Despite it, most of the members were present, though the meeting was delayed by thirty minutes. The president, Dr.P.J.Thomas presided. The flag salutation was rendered by Cub. Soumya Manuel. The master of ceremony was Ln.K.R. Reghunath. The ZMA, Cherian Paul Vazhappilly addressed the members. The most important item for the day was the formation of the Leo Club and the principal officer bearers were elected.

Ln.Dalbin D’Cunha delivered the Independence day message. He started with a small quiz for the cubs on the independence struggle and its leaders and after wards rendered his message which, though addressed to the cubs on the need of preserving your neighbour’s independence was appealing to all. Then patriotic songs were sung the Lionesses, Cubs and Lions. Leo. Amrita Reghunath sang an impressive solo too. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ln. M.P.Jose, It was decided at the meeting that the Onam celebrations will be held on Saturday,18th September and the lioness club was entrusted to organise the same with the Leos.

Ln.E.K.Antony and Ln.Cherian Vattathara hosted the Dinner.

LIONESS AND LEO CLUBS

The Lioness club had shown enthusiasm in joining the lions in attending the Cabinet Installation. The President, Secretary and the treasurer of the Lioness Club and the Spouse of ZMA Cherian Vazhappilly accompanied the Lions to the function.

The Lioness President Lns.Anies Thomas was instrumental in organising the medical camp in association with the Red Cross Society.

A Leo Club is formed on 14th August 2004, Cub. John T. Parakkal will be the President and Amrita Reghunath, is the Secretary. The principal office bearers are as follows;

MEGA MEDICAL CAMP

A MEGA MEDICAL CAMP in Association with the Medical Trust Hospital Ernakulam was held at The Sacred Heart Church,Manattuparambu on 17th of October 2004. The Camp was inaugurated by Lions Club International Multiple Vice Chairman Ln. Sabu Karikkasery at 10.00 am The meeting was presided over by the president, Lions Club of Narakkal Ln.Dr.P.J.Thomas. Fr. Sebastian Karukapilly, Vicar, Sacred Heart Church, Manattuparambu, Dr. P.V.Louis,Director Medical Trust Hospital Ernakulam also spoke on the occasion. Ln. Sabu Karikkasery in his inaugural address has opined that it is the fundamental right of every citizen that he should be getting advanced medical care and he said the Lions movement is devoted to provide the same and also appreciated the efforts taken by Medical Trust hospital in this connection. Dr. P.V.Louis Expressed his willingness to provide whatever concessions to the deserving patients at the camp.

Fr.Sebastian Karukapilly has appreciated the Lions Club for coming up with the proposal of conducting the camp at the Church and offered his support for the future endeavours. Ln.Cherian Paul Vazhappilly proposed vote of thanks. The medical camp began at 10.30 am. The Doctors who were present at the camp included Dr.Manu R.Varma- Cardiologist, Dr.Sarath-Urologist,Dr.Jose-ENT,Dr.George Mothi Justin-Pulmonologist, Dr.Mohammed Unni,and Dr.Hassan-General Medicine, Dr.P.V.Louis,Director

Medical Trust Also examined the patients. Apart from the Doctors a Contingent of very able and efficient team of staff from the Hospital also rendered their service at the camp The camp saw active participation of almost all the members except those who had to be away for certain unavoidable personal commitments. Lns.Lathika Mohan was also present through out the camp hours and was actively involved at the Registration Counter. Volunteers from various associations in the church were also available with their service.

More than 350 patients were examined by the Doctors. Free medicines were also distributed. The camp concluded at 1.50 pm.

FIRST ZONE CONFERENCE HOSTED

The First Zone Conference of Zone II Region II of the District 324E4 was hosted by Lions Club of Narakkal on 1st of October 2004 at Manjooran Centre,Narakkal. Zone II consists of Lions Clubs of Cochin-South, Cochin-City, Udyogamandal,and Narakkal. The zone advisory committee met at 8.00 pm which was presided over by the Zone Chairperson Ln.T.V.Thomas and all the principal office bearers of the member clubs and the Zone Membership Advisor participated in the same. The conference meeting started at 8.30 pm.Leo.Annmol Cherian rendered the invocation and Leo.Priya Varghese the Flag Salutation. Ln. Dr.P.J.Thomas,President,Narakkal Lions Club welcomed the gathering. . Ln.Dr.P.M.Abdul Gafoor of Cochin –south,.Ln.M.A.Thankappan of Udyogamandal and Ln.Adv.Kurian Antony Edassery of Narakkal presented the Club reports. The zone Chairperson Ln.T.V.Thomas in his conference address appreciated the performance of the member clubs During the previous period and urged them to perform better in the coming months. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ln.Thomas P.Varghese. After the adjournment there was a ganamela in which almost all the members participated and it was a memorable musical evening for all . The masters of ceremony were Ln.Dalbin D’Cunha and Leo.Dhiya Jose. The Dinner was hosted by Ln.Cherian Paul Vazhappilly, Ln Jose Joseph Mampilly and Lion Yesudas Augustine.

ONAM CELEBRATED

On 18th of September 2004 the Onam celebrations of Lions Club of Narakkal was held at Manjooran Centre,Narakkal. Though Onam was long over the festive mood was reverberant with the members dressed in the traditional Kerala dress with ladies wearing Kerala Saree and the men in Mundu and Jubba. A Pookalam was laid by the lioness and Leo members which was well designed and was pleasing to the eyes. The Zone chairperson Ln.T.V.Thomas was invited as a guest at the meeting. The meeting started at 8.00pm and was presided over by the president. Flag salutation was rendered by Leo.Soumya Manuel and the President welcomed the gathering. The club had organised a project of handing over of good used clothes collected from members to Andhyodhaya society,Angamaly as ONAM GIFT, initiative for which was taken by Ln.E.K.Antony. The Zone chairperson handed over the clothes to D.C. Ln.Peter Thettayil,Director, Andhyodhaya Society, Angamaly. The Zonechairperson Ln.T.V.Thomas, Ln.Peter Thettayil, Ln.M.A.Thankappan,President Lions Club of Udyogamandal spoke on the occasion. The Onam messages were delivered by Lns.Rosy George and Ln.Thomas P.Varghese. Various entertainment programmes were arranged for the evening. The first of which was the competition for the best dressed couple. In the parade all the members participated and it was beautiful to see the well dressed couple moving along. Ln. K.P.Mohan & Lns.Lathika Mohan and Ln.K.R.Reghunath & Lns.Zaina were adjudged joint winners. Ln.Sajan Paramel conducted the programme ‘Manaporutham’ in which the couple were tested for the Porutham in knowing each other. Ln.K.R.Reghunath & Zaina were the winners. There was a solo dance by Leo. Amrita Reghunath and an anthakshari competition in which all the members sang onapattu and Vanchipattu. The masters of ceremony were Leo.Priya Varghese and Leo.Dhiya Jose. The dinner was hosted by Ln.P.J.Francis and Ln.Dalbin D’Cunha.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST HELD

The Club Level Peace Poster contest was held on 20th October 2004 at Manjooran Centre,Narakkal. Students from various schools at Narakkal were invited to participate in the competition. About 54 students registered for participation at the contest. The contest began at 2.30 pm and it was concluded at 5.30 pm. The judges for the competition were Jaimon Akkanath an artist, Jose George an art-teacher and Lns. Thilakam Thomas,. The winners were Jibin M.P., Joe Peter and Shankar A.M. all from Little flower High School,Narakkal. The standard of work was very high and the top five were recommended for participation at the Regional level competition. The trophies for the winners were given away by the Zone chairperson Ln.T.V.Thomas. All the participants were given consolation prizes. In spite of it being a working day the presence of Lions Thomson Paul,Dalbin D'Cunha, K.R.Reghunath, George V.Mampilly, Sajan Paramel, E.K.Antony, and Lionesses Jessy Thomson, .Mary Francis were quite encouraging.

THE OFFICIAL VISIT of our beloved District Governor Ln. KURIAN JOHN and the First lady of the District Ln. VIMLA KURIAN was held on 13th of November 2004. The Governor arrived at 5.30 pm in order to carry out the special project in honour of his visit that of giving the keys of two houses for the disabled constructed by the club. He personally visited both the houses and handed over the keys. Later in the evening the board with the governor was held at Manjooran Centre at 7.30 pm and the general body at 8.00 pm. At the general body meeting Leo.Amritha Reghunath did the invocation and Ln.Thomson Paul performed the Flag Salutation. President Ln.Dr.P.J.Thomas welcomed the gathering and the governor was introduced by Ln.Dalbin D’Cunha. The Governor inaugurated the LEO CLUB OF NARAKKAL and installed its office bearers and also launched the Website of Narakkal Club. Ln. Kurian John honored a number of members of the club and expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the of the club and sought the co-operation of the club in the District activities. Ln.ANS Poduval, District Cabinet Secretary, Ln.N.C.V.Kurup Cabinet Treasurer, Ln.Premnath Shenoy, R.C., Ln.T.V.Thomas, ZC also spoke on the occasion.Ln. P.D.Varghese and Leo.Priya Varghese were the masters of Ceremony and Ln.Joy Chelat and Ln.M.P.Jose hosted the Dinner.

 

On 4th of December 2004 five new members were inducted to the Club by Ln. K. Ramachandran Nair, D.C. Membership Development. Of the new members who joined our club two were past members Ln. Ouseph Mampilly and Ln.Saju.S.J. Ln. Ouseph Mampilly who has returned to our fold after being the president at Mangalore club and is on transfer. While . Ln. Saju had to discontinue his association with Lions Club due to professional compulsions and is now back with us. The three new members are Ln. Varghese Menacherry, Ln.Denny Paulose and Ln. Manoj Thomas Panjikkaran. The new members were duly inducted by Ln.K.Ramachandran Nair who in his address commended the performance of the Narakkal Club and said it’s a proud achievement to have five new members joining in a year. The Zone Chairperson Ln.T.V.Thomas, ZMA, Cherian Paul Vazhappilly, Membership committee chairman Ln.E.K.Antony also spoke on the occasion. Ln.K.N.Ninan,of Cochin– South, Ln.Varkichan Pettah of Thrikkakara also felicitated.

Lions Club of Narakkal is now on the world wide web. On 13th November 2004 the website of Lions Club of Narakkal was launched by the District Governor Ln. Kurian John on his official visit to the Club. In his address after launching the website he said: that lions clubs have to think of going hi-tech in the days to come and it is so amazing to think that technology could bring people so close worldwide.

The website of the club contains details of the lions club international, its history, international president, district governor, vice district governor, the details of all the members of the lions club of Narakkal, news letter,bullettin board, meeting details, details regarding the lioness club, Leo club, forthcoming events, and there is also a page which offers links to very interesting sites on the web called best links ever and also a form which could be used by anyone to keep in touch with the club and inform us about the requirements of service in any area. The site has search engines for searching data as well as MP3. It also contains an exhaustive album of the service projects of the Club. The website is dedicated to the club by Ln.Adv.Kurian Antony Edassery and Lns.Adv.Anna Kurian who designed and developed the site. The site will be updated every month.

 

The Eye Screening camp for school children was held at St.Mary’s U.P.School,Narakkal on Wednesday, 8th December 2004. The team led by Dr.Sahasranamam from Little flower hospital, Angamaly conducted the screening of school children. The camp commenced at 10.30am and concluded at 3.30 pm around 610 Students from class 1 to 4 were covered by the camp. Medicines were also distributed to the students and classes were taken for students on the eye care and also leaflets were distributed. The teachers of the schools co-operated with the members in the club for the proper conduct of the camp. The camp saw the presence of a number of members which included Ln. George V.Mampilly, Ln.Thomson Paul, Lioness .President Dr.Anies Thomas. The lunch for the camp members were served at the residence of Ln.P.J.Francis where Lns.Mary Francis rendered all the help.

The presence of members in spite of it being a working day and the co-operation extended by the school and Rev.Fr.Joseph Kozhikadan needs a special mention here.

NEWS UPDATES

WE SALUTE OUR PRESIDENT

Our beloved President had made us proud by donating Rs.10,000/= and joining as a golden member of the district Centre. He declared the same at the district governor’s visit to our club on 13th November and he was honoured by the district on 12th December for his contribution at the cabinet meeting and international Dignitary’s Visit. Narakkal Club thus finds a place in the District Centre. Being the charter president and the senior most member we are so proud of our president. Salutes to you

Dr.Shakthidharan offers a

Free Medical Camp

Dr.Shakthidharan,our III V.P. has offered to conduct free distribution of preventive medicine for dengue fever and chickenpox at his clinic and the same will be conducted on Sunday, 9th of January 2005 at his Clinic at Narakkal.

Vice– District Governor's Visit

Our esteemed Vice District Governor Ln.M.V.Das Mankidy has consented to visit our Club on 4th of February 2005.Since the Charter nite falls on the very same month the Charternite will also be celebrated on his visit.

Christmas - New Year Celebrations on 2nd January 2005

The Christmas New year Celebrations of our Club will be held on Sunday 2nd of January, 2005. A colourful musical evening is expected to give the new year a good beginning.
